Opportunities for Families

The Children's Information Service

(tel. 024 76834373) based in the Central Library has information about a variety of opportunities for families in Coventry. Here are just a few of the things that are on offer.

Footsteps into Books

Offers you the opportunity to share books, fun activities, songs and rhymes with your child (0-4 years) and learn more about how to support your child's learning. Footsteps is organised by The Children and Family Education Service (tel.024 7660 2590 )

Language and Play

A short course for parents and carers of under 5's to help you learn more about how children develop language and communication skills and fun ways you can support them. They are organised by the Children and Family Education Service ( tel.024 76 60 2590) and take place in local venues.

Fun for Fathers

Fun for Fathers is an opportunity for dads, granddads, uncles and older brothers to enjoy activities with their children , based around a storytime. They are organised by the Children and Family Education Service (tel.024 7678 6949) and take place in local primary schools.

Rhyme Time

Rhymes, songs and fun for under 5's and their carers, organised by the Children's Library Service (tel. 024 7683 2317)

Opportunities for Early Years Practioners

The Early Years Training Team (tel.024 76785893) has information about a wide range of courses available for early years practitioners. Here are just a few of the things that are on offer.

Start Talking

An introductory workshop that looks at how children's communication skills develop.

All Talk Now

A 6 hour training programme that explores normal communication development and strategies to help children develop good communication skills. The programme also provides information about some of the common causes of language delay and how to support children who are experiencing difficulties.

All Talk Now Together

A whole day training programme for Early Years settings to develop a team approach to encouraging children's communication skills.

Listen Think Talk

Six sessions run by a Speech and Language Therapist in your setting to develop the skills of adults to encourage and stimulate the language development of pre-school children. Sessions involve a workshop and 1:1 mentoring.  Contact Speech and Language Therapy Dept: 02476 844187.
