December`s Top Tip

[ 01 Dec 2009] The TV can be great for giving your child a few minutes of quiet time, but remember –it cannot replace you for teaching your child to talk!! If your child enjoys watching certain TV programmes, try watching with them. You can talk about what is happening on the programme and answer your child’s questions.

The current recommendation for watching TV for under 2 years olds is half an hour a day and for older children an hour a day.

Noise from the TV can also be a big distraction so turn it off if it’s not being used. This will help your child listen to what you are saying and attend to what they are playing with.
