6. Give children time to respond

Take turns to speak so they learn how conversation works. Try and pause for 10 seconds to give them time to say or do something. Be patient - it can take small children time to sort out what they want to say.

Use Christmas shopping to expand your child's vocabulary

[ 10 Nov 2009] You can use the run up to Christmas when you might be doing more shopping than usual to teach your child new words.  As you put things in your trolley name them for your child and make sure you name things that your child points at.
